Iodine

Notable for its black solid form, Iodine possesses glittering crystalline texture. It has moderate vapor pressure under normal temperature and it produces toxic violet colored vapor when placed and heated in an open container. Although it is non metal, yet it possesses several metallic properties. Its molten form is used to prepare iodide based non aqueous solvent. It is a weaker oxidizing agent when compared to chlorine or bromine. Its radioactive as well as non radioactive forms are used to formulate various medicinal items for treating external injury and thyroid related complications. Besides these Iodine is used as an essential ingredient of printing ink and animal feed.
